Much of my work plays with the balance between two opposing ideas; safety and vulnerability, control and flow, love and animosity, reality and fantasy, memory and presence. I see my process as a research into my own psyche and memory that seeks to mix a grey from my black-and-white thinking. Put simply, I make art to make sense of the world and my perception of it.
Most recently, I have been identifying ephemera, materials, or imagery that evoke nostalgia for some reason, either because they belong to the past or because of the funny way memories erode and change and fabricate themselves. I enjoy bringing these morsels of past to the present and experiencing them again as an adult. I have found tremendous empathy through re-examining my history with a fuller context. The goal of my work is to serve as a reminder that memory is not history, but the story we have adopted as a way to comprehend our lives and the passing of time. Who told your story? Whose memories are those? It is worth reconsideration.
I grew up in Texas and completed my BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing and Painting at the University of North Texas in 2024. I began painting when I was in middle school, mainly as a creative outlet to cope and express myself. I was completely self-taught until freshman year of college, when I decided to change my major from Linguistics to Studio Art after taking a few art classes. Ever since, I have found my passion and identity as an artist and absolutely love continuing to learn and grow as a creator.
I have been creating art for over 10 years, specializing in figurative oil paintings. I have been a part of numerous group shows and continue to accept commission-based work.
